Luis Fega

Considered one of the best Spanish artists of his generation, Luis Fega (Piantón, Vegadeo, 1952) continues to explore with unusual energy the mysteries of colour sublimation and the strength of gestures that permeate his canvases, collages or assemblages. Praised by critics and collectors, he has taken part in important group exhibitions of international relevance and today remains concentrated in his workshop. He alternates transparencies with the synthesis of spaces, and works with an almost innate painting action which values its roots in landscape and geometric games, and which considers art both an ethical and aesthetic exploration. Through broad strokes that tear the canvas, the artist seeks pictorial and emotional sublimation, developing glazes over backgrounds that simulate wide storm surges. Such works are only possible when there is a full balance between will and commitment, between the poetic dimension and an unpredictable and disquieting something else. It is the act of painting that is transformed into an analytical investigation, rigorous and intelligent, on the nature of paint itself.
