Social consciousness, historical reflection and a resistance to social alienation are crucial in the work of Santi Lara (Tomelloso, 1975), whose metaphors about the human condition wrap his unique characters within a symbolic and narrative scenography. The young Spanish artist, who is also a member of the Laramascoto collective, has spent the past years between Spain, Germany, Mexico and Italy, and has been the recipient of several distinguished awards and scholarships for his ability to transport the paint to neighbouring territories between reality and fiction, alternating his apocalyptic visions of ritual spirits, mythological resources and medieval nostalgias. His figures levitate among forests and coexist with elements of contemporary culture (monitors, computers, mobile phones…) where the painter launches questions and the paint offers new answers.
